This past week, our international MIS case team consisting of Nicolette Clairmont, Keon Garvin, Carston Hernke, and Stephanie Shrider placed in the top 4 teams at the Chulalongkorn International Business Case Competition in Phuket, Thailand! A picture of the team is attached.

This is an exceptionally strong showing given that it marks the first time one of our MIS case teams has competed in a general business case competition at the international level. Please take the time to congratulate the team if you interact with any of these students!

This caps another outstanding year as both of our international teams were selected by the judges as finalists in their respective international competitions and Stephanie earned the individual best speaker award in Vancouver.

Thailand's Forth Smart corporation sponsored this year's 24 hour case, which challenged students to design a strategy for the kiosk company's e-Wallet product. This was particularly challenging for our students because general purpose, self-service kiosks are not common in North America. Inspired by the way Apple revolutionized the music business, the team proposed that Forth Smart develop an ecosystem by providing incentives for customers and merchants to participate.

The team also developed a solution to a second case, proposing a strategy for a startup Thai skin care company. For this case, the students had only 8 hours to prepare their proposal!

The team then defended their proposals in front of a panel of judges representing companies such as Forth Smart (the case sponsor), SCB, Do Day Dream PLC, IBM, and Microsoft. In addition to the formal recognition of being a "final four" team, several of our team members were nominated for individual awards by their peer competitors and the competition organizing committee showing that the entire team represented Carlson and the U of MN well. We couldn't be more proud!
